Tracy Chapman has topped Billboard‘s Country Songwriters chart for the first time in her career, thanks to Luke Combs‘ “Fast Car” cover.
Chapman rose from No. 3 to No. 1 on Country Songwriters chart dated June 17.
Combs’ version of the song, on which Chapman is the sole credited writer, holds at its No. 2 high on the Hot Country Songs chart and jumps 8-4 on the Billboard Hot 100.
According to Luminate, Combs’ cover recorded 34.2 million radio airplay audience impressions, up 30%; 20.2 million U.S. streams, up 1%; and 9,000 downloads sold, up 4%.
“Fast Car” was originally released on April 6, 1988, as the lead single from Chapman’s 1988 self-titled debut studio album. Combs released the cover version of the song on his 2023 album Gettin’ Old.
