During a recent interview with Billboard, Michelle Branch opened up about her divorce from her husband Patrick Carney and her upcoming fourth studio album, The Trouble With Fever, due out on September 16.
Branch said that focusing on the new album and her tour has been “the best distraction ever. I think if I didn’t have this record coming out, I would probably be in bed crying all day.”
In a post on Twitter last month, Branch accused Carney of cheating on her while she was home with their 6-month-old baby. However, she subsequently deleted the post.
She then told People that she and Carney were separating after three years of marriage. “To say that I am totally devastated doesn’t even come close to describing how I feel for myself and for my family. The rug has been completely pulled from underneath me and now I must figure out how to move forward,” she added.
Branch, who was arrested after admittedly slapping Carney following a dispute, filed for a divorce following which the domestic assault case was dismissed at the request of the state.
“I have a lot of s— I want to write about now,” she said in the Billboard interview and said recording the new album was “really a special time” for her.
“I’m looking forward to standing on my own two feet and reconnecting with myself, as cheesy as that sounds,” she added. “I’ve been in mom mode, I’ve been in wife mode. I haven’t been in Michelle Branch mode for a while. And I feel like that’s gonna be really healing, and cathartic, and fun.”
