A series of music shows paying tribute to late folk legend John Prine in Nashville has been postponed to next year.
The week-long tribute shows were originally scheduled to begin on October 3 and culminate on October 10, which would have marked Prine’s 74th birthday.
The tribute series, titled “You Got Gold,” has now been rescheduled to Fall 2022.
Announcing the delay, Prine’s family and record label Oh Boy Records said the current surge of the COVID-19 pandemic forced them to make the decision.
“In light of how John died, we just could not reconcile pushing forward and adding any undue stress and anxiety during an already fraught season,” they said in a statement, referring to Prine’s death in April due to complications caused by COVID-19 at the age of 73.
“Our family wanted nothing more than to gather with you all and remember John together. We very much look forward to seeing you all next year when we can gather safely and joyfully, and truly be together as a big family and community to remember and celebrate the life and songs of one extraordinary man,” the statement added.
