Country superstar Carrie Underwood‘s new “Sunday Night Football” theme song made its debut ahead of NBC‘s coverage of the NFL contest between the Los Angeles Rams and the Chicago Bears on Sunday (September 12).
Opening “Sunday Night Football” for the ninth consecutive season, Underwood performs the iconic “Waiting All Day For Sunday Night,” which is set to the melody of Joan Jett‘s “I Hate Myself For Loving You.”
“Shooting the new show open for Sunday Night Football is one of the highlights of my year,” said Underwood. “I just love the fact that we get to reinvent it every year.”
She added, “The team behind these shoots is incredible and it’s always a really fun day, especially this year getting to work with such amazing state-of-the-art technology.”
The new “Sunday Night Football” open for the first time features a virtual football tailgate as a backdrop for Underwood’s performance.
The open also highlights user-generated cameos from some of the NFL’s biggest stars as well as fans’ self-recorded video from NFL tailgates.
