Dolly Parton has won her first Emmy, as the Netflix movie executive produced by the country music legend, Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square, received the award for outstanding television movie at the Creative Arts ceremony on Sunday.
Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square was only the second holiday movie after the 1977 film The Gathering to win the Emmy in this category.
Parton, who did not attend the Emmy ceremony, had earlier said about the movie, “Who knew that when we were creating this movie, that it would be aired in the middle of the pandemic, and it would bring so much joy and so much hope to millions of people around the world?”
Responding to the news, Christmas On the Square director Debbie Allen said, “This is such an icing on a cake that we baked so well and tastes so good already.”
The Netflix original film also won the Outstanding Choreography for Scripted Programming award.
The third and final installment of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which lead up to the Primetime Emmy Awards this Sunday, was held at L.A. Live in Los Angeles.
